Russia Just Might Be Serious
Maybe it's me, but has Russia been drinking Vodka lately? Do they honestly think they'll get away with trying to lay claim to the rich natural resources of the Arctic? Well they think so enough to send a ship and two mini subs to the north pole.
Unfortunately for Russia, if they want to claim the "continental shelf" bit, I've been told that Canada can lay claim to parts of mainland Russia. (I can't seem to find any information one way or another on the subject, so if there's a geology geek out there who can help, please feel free to do so)
There's also the problem of the 200 mile radius that the UN has rules for. Basically Russia is trying to make a natural resources grab and they can't legally do it. They are seeing if they can get away with it or not.
