Safi Killed
A senior leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq was killed today by Iraqi security forces.
This bit of news is significant for a number of reasons:
Obviously any lead of Al-Qaeda in Iraq being captured or killed is one more step towards bringing about peace and stability to Iraq. It's one more step towards people not living in fear over roaming death squads and torture. This in of itself is very important.
However, you also have that the Iraqi's found, followed, and killed the guy all by themselves. Had they could have easily let these guys get away if corruption was as widespread as previously thought. But they didn't. They followed these guys and only opened fire on them when they were fired upon first.
It's showing progress that the Iraqi's are now starting to stand on their own two feet. Keep up the good work and they'll be just fine.
