Execution halted with 90 minutes to spare - CNN.com
It's cases like this that really piss me off. Here we have a guy who murdered an elderly woman by beating her to death with a tire iron, and yet, we have to feel sorry for this scum because his death might be "cruel and unusual".
Basically, they are asking that the method of execution, lethal injection, be looked into because the inmate might feel severe pain before he dies. Because I believe very deeply in the Constitution, I must regretfully agree that this needs to be looked into.
However, what we really need to do is have it looked into LONG before the execution is set to take place.
This woman didn't get to chose how she died and didn't get to get a sedative "to take the edge off", like this guy got.
I'm glad he's nervous. I'm glad he's scared to die. That woman he killed must have been frightened out of her mind.
When he dies for his crimes, then justice will be served. However, if they need a new method of execution, I've suggested several in the past that are quick and painless.

For the murderer here, who's to say what punishment fits his crime? Is he mentally ill and therefore cannot be held accountable for his actions? Can he be viewed as just a biological flaw (abnormal brain chemistry)? Can he be likened to an animal that knows no better? Take a wasp for example. Wasps are predators that play an important role in natural pest insect control. If you fuck with a wasp it will sting you. It's programmed that way. Should you capture this wasp that stung you, would you give it a cruel death or a humane one? Would you kill it at all? The point is that cruelty begets cruelty, and as much as people may want to show no mercy to violent criminals, in the end who would that benefit?
Sure, the spirit of the law was meant to prevent people from being ripped apart in particularly gruesome fashion, but we work on the letter of the law.
Luckily, the mind can do great things, and this guy's mind must be going crazy knowing he's about to die.
