Oil Drilling To Resume In Alaska?
Well it just might happen. President Bush is deciding on whether or not lift the ban on drilling in the Bristol Bay. I hope he does lift the ban and allow more exploration on our own soil. This would help alleviate the price of gasoline and create thousands of jobs. Environmentalists don't want drilling to start because of harm to the nearby wildlife? Well I ask, why can't the energy companies be required to be environmentally responsible if it's not already on the books? Why do we have to pay extra at the pump and fund Middle Eastern countries that hate our guts so that a little otter can swim in 100 miles of ocean?
The Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989 is still fresh in everyone's mind, and rightfully so. But to have a resource that we can use that's right in our own backyard and not use it is stupid. You hear everyone, Democrats included, bitching about the high prices of gas. Well here's a perfect way to help make things cheaper on you, so let's start drilling. Require energy companies to put back X amount of money towards environmental protections to please environmentalists as a way to reach a common middle ground.

Powell Says We Should Talk To Iran
Well of course we should open dialog with them. But we should also be weary about trusting them. Let's not forget they took over our embassy in 1979 and try to demonize us at every opportunity they get. After all, we're "The Great Satan". The new leader of Iran is a personable, almost charming guy who knows how to woo a crowd. But so was Hitler. I'm not saying that Hitler was charming, but you have to give him credit for his whipping a crowd into a frenzy skills. Israel rightfully is keeping both eyes on this guy.

Democrats Reject Key 9/11 Panel Suggestions
Well of course they would. First off, it would effect them directly in the worst way. They were screaming to have the panels recommendations put into action, but when it comes to "walking the walk", they don't want to quite do it all the way. Plus, since 9/11 was a vast government conspiracy according to their most idiotic members, what's the point of doing anything? Sure, they're wanting to do everything else the panel recommends, but why aren't they doing everything? Because the one thing they don't want to do effects them most directly.
I told you Democrats were weak on terrorism. Now it seems like they are proving me right. Just wait until they try to gut the PATRIOT act or the NSA's wiretapping programs and we're attacked again then claim that the war in Iraq was the root cause and there was nothing that could be done to stop it. Make no mistake, we're threatened on a daily basis, and I'd rather we have a politician that won't take shit from anyone and make more enemies by going after those that pose a threat to us then a politician that just sits idly by and does nothing but piss and moan about how more could be done and how it was someone else's fault, but they don't want to take any action that would have prevented it in the first place.

Can I Be Heartless For A Moment?
Ok, I'm gonna probably come off sounding like some kind of heartless asshole, but now that raising the minimum wage issue has been brought to the table by the Democrats, I'd like to comment on it.
The young woman profiled here came the realization that she would be better off on food stamps and welfare then working at Target. Now, I don't mind raising the minimum wage because raising 3 children on 5 bucks and hour is pretty much impossible. Granted she now works at DirecTV, but I have a few problems with her situation.
First off. Where's the father of these children? Why is he not paying child support? Why is he not taking care of his children like any real man would? That would probably help take care of a big portion of her financial needs.
Secondly, why is it that she cannot take college courses and better her life and the lives of her children? She's a grown up and should know that working entry level jobs for the rest of her life isn't going to cut it. We've all had minimum wage jobs that we've hated, but it takes guts, drive, and ingenuity to make your life better for yourself. Grants are certainly available if she applied herself. She could certainly get a better job once she completed college.
I busted my ass getting to where I am in life. I've certainly had entry level jobs that paid practically nothing and have faced bankruptcy many times in my life. The difference is that I used the options that were available to me to the fullest potential and now I'm merely trying to convince this woman to do the same thing.
One thing everyone needs to understand is that when you raise minimum wage, everyone pays for it. That $3 cup of Starbucks coffee will become $3.50. Starbucks isn't going to eat and extra $2 an hour and not pass that cost off to us. So, feel free to raise the minimum wage, just don't bitch about it when you find out it's costing everyone.

This Is All They Should Have To Worry About
A returning soldier should only have to worry about such odd things about readjusting to civilian life. How many new choices of steak sauce and returning to "normal" life. I'm just glad that all of the soldiers here have a supportive wife and children to return to. Some soldiers are returning to empty homes because wifes and girlfriends have left. However, I thought that soldiers remains returned on a military jet instead of a commercial one? Is there anyone out there who's in the know that can confirm or deny this happens? Does a soldiers remains actually fly on a commercial airliner? I would rather my taxes go up and pay the extra money towards a military jet returning the downed soldier then have him/her return in the luggage compartment. It's simply a matter of respect to the soldier and his family.

Al-Qaeda May Target Finanical Firms
Well duh. There are reports of possible computer related attacks on financial firms from terrorist groups. Well if the financial firms have a decent IT department, they really don't have much to worry about. Backups, firewalls, proper security policies and more should be more then enough to thwart any attempt to attack financial firms. I deal with computer threats on a daily basis and one thing that I've noticed more then anything is that if you follow good, hardened security policies, the chances of a successful attack are slim to none.
Of course, nothing is 100% foolproof, but you can weed out almost every script kiddie out there with some simple precautions. Personally, I'd love to see a financial firm have security policies in place that state if they are attacked, attack back. Block the offending person and launch your own attack trying to get as much information about the person as possible.

They Owe It To The Families
DNA testing has come a very long way in the last decade or so. So it seems fitting that when DNA testing is asked for in a murder trial, it should be granted automatically. Atlanta child murder Wayne Williams was convicted of killing 2 men and suspected in 22 other murders. If those murders were not committed by Wayne Williams, the court system owes it to the families to find out who did. We did a similar thing at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier. One of the few things I can give Bill Clinton for is that when it was possible to find out who was interred there, he said it was our responsibility to soldiers and their families to carry out tests and close any wounds that they may still carry with them.

False Terror Arrest Leads To $2 Million Settlement
I don't know about you, but if I was falsely arrested in connection with a bombing that killed almost 200 people, $2 million seems a bit low. This is why lab techs need to be right the first time. Check, then double check your findings. In my line of work, a screwup can cause about $1,000 an hour in downtime. In their line of work, reputations and ways of making a living can be ruined forever. That's not to say that this wasn't a simple mistake. It could readily have been. But before you arrest someone, you have to be absolutely sure that what you find is correct.

Something Isn't Right Here
This story doesn't sit right with me. So you have 6 guys who move from their assigned seats to a pattern similar to the September 11th hijackers. They then start "praying" and people are pissed that they were escorted off the plane? You're damned if you do and damned if you don't in a situation like that. What happens if they took over the plane? People would be screaming for blood against the police. What happens if that plane cannot be forced to land and has to be shot down?
So the 6 guys are now complaining that they are being treated unfairly and how people should be more sensitive to them. Well how about they be sensitive to everyone else around them? They should be sensitive enough to know that moving seats and "praying" would upset people and make them think that they could be a threat. One guy has the nerve to say that he's got a "double whammy" because he's guilty of "driving while black" and "flying while Muslim". Well suck it up. I'm guilty of "being white". What does that mean? That means even though I've done no wrong against people, I'm guilty of; Slavery, Racism, Fascism, Oppression, Hunger, Poor Dancing Ability (this one is true), and many other evils in the world that I have not created. But do you hear me bitch and complain that I'm taken off to the side EACH AND EVERY TIME I fly and searched more vigorously then everyone else? No. Do you know why? Because I'm a grown up and know that I'm responsible for my own actions, not the actions of people I've never even met.

So an elderly woman lives in a crime ridden neighborhood. Police are executing a "no knock" search warrant on her house and are effectively "breaking in". She probably can't see or hear as well as she could in her younger years and thinks that the bad guys are coming to get her. She fires on her intruders. The police think it's malice and fire back and kill her. I can see both sides of the story on this one and unfortunately, an elderly woman who probably was fearing for her life instead of being a drug dealer, died because of it. That may not be what happened, but it certainly is within the realm of possibility.

So I asked "what would happen if the Palestinians got their way and Israeli troops withdrew from certain places". I didn't think I'd get my answer so quickly. It looks like nothing would change and militant groups would continue firing into Israel. I get the feeling that the only thing that will stop militant groups from doing such things would be a cataclysmic event upon them. Nuclear weapons would be out of the question because of the proximity of everyone involved. However, I think that sooner or later, someone's going to snap and and that cataclysmic event will happen. So Now You Complain About Length?
We've been involved in Iraq longer then WWII. This is true. However, there are some vast differences between the two conflicts that this guy doesn't want to show. There were vastly more countries involved in WWII. We weren't nation building during that time. We ended it with two nuclear weapons. We lost more than 400,000 lives then compared to 3,000 now. There was significantly higher civilian causalities in WWII. The Soviet Union took the brunt of the military deaths then. We're not doing a "scorched earth" run.
In the end more than 24,000,000 people lost their lives in WWII. It was one of, if not the number one, the worst loss of life conflicts in history. If we decided to massacre everyone within Iraq (which would NEVER happen) the conflict could be over within a matter of months. However, street to street fighting with an unknown enemy who doesn't wear a uniform, who pretends to be a civilian can make the fighting go a lot longer and is more dangerous then anyone can anticipate.

An apology letter written to Hans Blix. Well that's all fine and dandy, but don't title it "On Behalf Of The American People". You don't speak for me. I speak my own opinions well enough. Besides, perhaps you should take a look at some of the things that Hans Blix's team complained about before the invasion of Iraq. Such as Saddam not allowing his team to go into certain areas at certain times. Getting blocked access to certain sites all together. Saddam had been doing this for 12 years, firing on our aircraft patrolling the No Fly Zone set up after the first Gulf war. Russian Intelligence confirmed Saddam was plotting terrorist attacks on American soil. Saddam also had made plans to assassinate George H.W. Bush. You can't tell me Saddam didn't deserve to be ousted because he wasn't a threat. After 9/11, we cannot afford to allow threats to remain. And yes, I know that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, but when you see a threat and you find pictures like this, they don't deserve to be left alone.
So don't tell Hans that "we're" sorry, tell him you're sorry.

Medicare Drug Prices
Man, I didn't think one of the Democrats first order's of business would collapse so quickly. I thought it would take at least a year or two. But apparently, "The Medicare drug benefit, one of the Bush administration's signature domestic programs, was created in 2003 and took effect in January" has made drugs for senior citizens cheaper. It has continued to drop in price 2 years in a row. So it looks like Democrats won't be able to use this issue in reelection campaigns.
I thought Republican's were evil people who were in the pockets of the Oil/Drug/Military companies? So why is it that a Republican controlled congress with a Republican president decided to put together a program that saves our seniors money when it comes to prescription drugs? It boggles the mind!

I thought Republican's were evil people who were in the pockets of the Oil/Drug/Military companies? So why is it that a Republican controlled congress with a Republican president decided to put together a program that saves our seniors money when it comes to prescription drugs? It boggles the mind!

Damn It
This is why we should have hunted down and killed Moqtada al-Sadr a year or two ago when we had the chance. Now it's coming to bite us in the ass. I get the feeling that this was a political decision rather then a military one in letting him live. The original agreement between him and the new Iraqi government was he would cease all violence and become a part of the new government. Well if he hasn't adhered to that agreement, all bets are off and he should be hunted down like an animal. We have enough problems in Iraq without having to deal with some asshole on the sidelines instigating shit.

Michael Richards "Shattered"
Whaaah! My career is in a tailspin because I made some racist comments! Poor me! Suck it up Michael, you were caught on camera and that's why you're going into damage control. But I wonder why he went on Jesse Jackson's show to do it? Jesse Jackson is a racist himself. He gladly showed up to Stanley "Tookie" Williams' execution and funeral, arguing that Stanley was no longer a threat to society, but he ignored the next man to be executed, Clarence Ray Allen who was 76 years old, practically deaf, blind, and using a wheelchair. If anyone would be considered no longer a threat, I would pick Clarence over Stanley. But why wasn't Jesse Jackson at Clarence's execution and funeral? Because Clarence was white and there was no publicity in it for Jesse.
If Michael Richards truly wants to reconcile, he should pick a better person then Jesse Jackson to get his message out. Making amends with the people he directly offended is a good start. But he can't really whine about it and make excuses and expect everyone to buy into his bullshit.

What If?
I have a question. What if the Palestinians get their way and the borders from before the 1967 war are restored? That's the main gripe of Palestinians against the Israelis for quite some time now. So my questions is, if that complaint is taken care of, do Hamas and Hezbollah simply go away? Does true peace in the Middle East come? What happens if it doesn't? Would you blame Israel if they decided to take the land back?
It seems like the Palestinians love to play the "victim". Bombs going off in clubs, buses, and shopping malls doesn't strike me as them being victims. It strikes me as them being cowards.
So, I wonder when the Palestinians and Israelis will say "enough is enough" and stop fighting all together? It may never happen in our lifetimes, but if it did, it would certainly give one less excuse to every other Middle Eastern country to bitch about.
